FAQs

What is stump grinding?

Stump grinding is the process of removing tree stumps with the use of a mechanised grinding machine which shreds the tree stump into small chippings which mix with the soil during the grinding process.

Do you do other tree work?

No, we are a dedicated stump grinding contractor and as such we do not carry out any tree surgery work. We do work with a large number of tree surgery contractors and we will often be able to recommend a tree surgeon to you based on your location.

How much does it cost?

This depends on the number of stumps to be removed, how wide they are at ground level (their diameter), how tall they are, the type of ground in which they sit and what you intend to do with the ground once that the stumps have been removed (this will help us determine how deep we need to grind below the surface).

Do I need to be at home?

No. As long as we have access to the stumps there is no need for you to make any special effort to be on site while we carry out the works.

How much mess will be left?

The best way for you to judge this is to have a look at some of our before and after pictures. They should give you a good idea of what you can expect.

What happens to the resulting grindings/arisings?

They are backfilled into the hole that is created during the grinding process and then raked into a pile on top of the site where the stump used to be.

Can you take the grindings/arisings off site for us?

No. We are not equipped to do this and neither do we hold a waste carriers license. Stump grindings make good mulch, and can be easily disposed of by domestic customers by putting them in your green bin.
